Reflections on Complex Surgery Part 2

Eye Surgery is performed by Ophthalmologists.  It takes years of training as a medical student, junior doctor, specialist trainee and fellowship to achieve the skills necessary to provide the best possible care to our patients.  As part of our job, we will encounter patients with eye conditions that are more challenging than most - these are the complex cases.  With optimal pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative management we are able to perform the surgery necessary without complication, however even if adverse events occur, we need to have the skills to overcome them.  This 4 part series addresses the key issues gained from many years as an experienced surgeon operating on many complex cases.
