Anomalous anterior segment vasculature is an important clinical sign to avoid surgical disaster.  It can indicate serious disease including carotid-cavernous fistula, cavernous sinus thrombosis and the presence of nanophthalmos.  Potentially blinding complications of surgery can result if specific operative measures are not undertaken.
