Bleb Survival Protocol (2)

How do you maximise the longterm drainage from trabeculectomy surgery?  You need a bleb survival protocol.  This 2 part series discusses the external and internal milieu of factors that detrmine the continuation of the bleb.  These factors include ocular surface disease, infection risks, inflammation and iatrogenic interventions.  Awareness of these issues guides subsequent active management.

Professor Peter Shah is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and Supra-Regional Glaucoma Specialist at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust. He is also a Visiting Professor to the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology). He is Honorary Professor of Glaucoma at the Centre for Health and Social Care Improvement at the University of Wolverhampton.
